Strong lobby supports SOAS union leader

There was a strong turnout of staff and students on April 6th to support Stalin Bermudez' appeal against his sacking by SOAS.  In spite of the Easter vacation, 70+ joined the lunchtime protest at the college.  The view of SOAS unions is that Stalin, who is branch chair of UNISON, has been victimised for his role in getting a substantial wage rise for SOAS cleaners.  As well as UNISON and UCU speakers from SOAS, the lobby heard representatives from London Met UCU, which is facing the threat of hundreds of redundancies, and from Birkbeck UNISON/Living Wage Campaign.  We should know the result of the hearing this very soon.  SOAS UNISON are balloting for action in the event that the hearing does not find in Stalin's favour.
