It is appropriate that Resistance has first appeared on 28 September - the day hundreds-ofthousands have demonstrated their opposition to the war-plans of George Bush and his side-kick Tony Blair.
Each month, our paper will support and highlight the resistance by working-class people and the world's poor and oppressed to capitalism and its disastrous consequences. This resistance is taking place in many forms.
Resistance of the Palestinian people against the tanks and shells of the Israeli army.
• Resistance by the people of Latin American to the wrecking of their economies by the IMF. • Resistance of trade unionists against the privatisation of the public services and low pay.
• Resistance of communities against environment destruction.
• Resistance to racism and the attempt to demonise refugees fleeing neo-liberalism's wars and economic policies.
• Resistance to the imposition of a profit-dominant culture on the world's people, wiping out the rich diversity of human society
As well as building the resistance, we argue for a positive alternative. We refuse to accept that there is no alternative to a system whose first priority is the profits of the multi-national giants, banks and oil companies - a system that breeds poverty, war, oppression and environmental disaster.
Another world is possible. A world based on social justice, human needs, equality of rights, freedom and human solidarity.
