This is scanned newsprint, not web text. The original PDFs carried no text layer at all, so every word here was read off the page by OCR. Expect dropped opening letters, run-together words and wrong characters. There was no contents page to cut the paper up by, so the articles were found from the size of their headlines: a headline may carry its kicker, and where an article ran beside a boxed panel a few lines of the neighbour can appear. The scanned issue is the authority; this text is here so the words can be found at all.

worldwide movement against war, and the system which creates untold misery for millions. That system is capitalism which during the 20th century was responsible for the death of over 100 million people from wars to dominate land, natural resources and create profits for a minority.

But there is an alternative. "Another world is possible' is the slogan of the international anti-capitalist movement. Since the demonstrations in Seattle in 1999 against the World Trade Organisation, millions have demonstrated under this banner. The European Social Forum (ESF) is where the anti-capitalist and anti-war movements converge in Paris this November.

It is a chance for activists from across Europe and the rest of the world to decide what kind of world we want to live in through debate and demonstrations. Last year, the ESF in Italy co-ordinated an international day of action against war. February 15th 2003 saw strikes and protests in literally hundreds of countries around the globe. This year more people from Britain will be part of that

But to really change the world we need organisation. The rulers of the world are organised, they co-ordinate their attacks on us through institutions like the World Bank, IMF, and WTO. They use their positions in government to attack us every day.

Socialist Resistance is building a socialist organisation because we need a political alternative to these liars and thieves and never has their been such a need for an alternative. If we want to put an end to all wars, hunger and poverty we need end capitalism itself. "THE ANTI-WAR movement in Sweden has been very big, one demonstration was larger than the demonstrations against the Vietnam war. It was a very broad movement with a network of left groups, peace groups, political parties and, towards the end even the social democrats and the churches. ical parties and organisations because they don't see them as progressing their concerns.
