Raphie de Santos, G8 Alternatives, When tens of thousands of people from all over the world descond on Edinburgh next month to protest at the G8 summit In Gleneagles they will find a whole range of G8 alternative events on offer.

Local activists In Scotland are basy preparing activities in and around Edinburgh for the week of July 2-8.

Mass leafleting organised by the Edinburgh G8 Alternatives group In the city centre and in the local com unities Is spreading the news of events planned. These will now taclude a 'Stop the erialist Troops out of Iraq' march In Edinburgh on Sunday July 3, umed to accompany the 68 altemative summit.

The Edisburgh North and Loith branch of the Scottish Socallst Party (SSP) Is bulling large public meetings Inking the G8 summit to attempts to privatise local care homes under the banner 'Make Poverty History - No to Blalr and Bush's Privadsation Plans'.

There many events taking place during the six days. One event which should be given the highest priority is the demonstration on Tuesday July 5. at the Dungavel Detention Centre, called by the Glasgow Campalgn to Welcome Refugees. If you are coming to Edinburgh for the week's events please make sure you show your support for this acton.

A transport committee has been set up to tackle the Job of getting thousands of activists from Edinburgh to the G8 counter demonstration in Gleneagles on Wednesday 6 July. The committee Is organising distribution centres throughout the city to sell tickets for the buses to Gleneagles, reserving as many buses as possible, and is working with local trade unions to hire trains and sponsor seats.

We are tremendousty excited at the prospect of being Joined by hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world Jolning together in resistance to Bush and Blalr's globallsation plans.
