This is scanned newsprint, not web text. The original PDFs carried no text layer at all, so every word here was read off the page by OCR. Expect dropped opening letters, run-together words and wrong characters. There was no contents page to cut the paper up by, so the articles were found from the size of their headlines: a headline may carry its kicker, and where an article ran beside a boxed panel a few lines of the neighbour can appear. The scanned issue is the authority; this text is here so the words can be found at all.

trouped in to see Anders Fogh the new PM they were told there was no money for their pet projects, it had all been spent on Liberal and Conservative pet projects. If they wanted their snouts in the trough they would have to find "savings". That is not how one treats a respected ally and DF flounced out promising to be more critical of the government (short of bringing it down). The night of the long knives

The conservatives likewise had a good election and confidently expected more ministries in the new government. They went into meet Fogh with big grins and came out putting a brave face on things. Adding insult to injury one of their stars Henriette Kjaer had been body tackled, by a leak probably from somewhere in the government over her (plus her partner's) court orders for failure to pay for some expensive furniture.

Apparently somebody had sat on this for months and wheeled it out a few days after the election. Her partner is a former high-flying conservative spin-doctor with a predeliction of using other peoples' money and credit cards. He is hated by Venstre for stabbing them in the back during the 1995 budget negotiations, by some conservatives (it WAS their credit card) plus the people in firms he had established and then let go belly-up ... This is like Pernillle Rosenkrantz-Theil campaigning for the nationalisation of credit cards a surrealistic detective-drama where there were far too many suspects.

The humbling of the conservatives and partial freezing out of DF could show a new government style from Venstre.

They probably feel less need to appease DF since they can use the Radicals to push through their liberal agenda but can rely on DF to sell their soul (and the old and needy) for a few xenophobic crumbs.

Much to the chagrin of some of their young lions they have turned their back on ideological liberalism and now parade as the liberal social democacy, much as DF parade as the racist social democracy. Six of the best

Now the bit you've all been waiting for. Enhedslisten, the Red-Green Unity List had a good election, a very competent campaign with a well thought-out and concrete message.

We argued for example that unemployment was ideological, unnecessary and dysParty

functional. In Denmark,

800,000 people who could do

some work, but not maybe at

120mph (e.g. people with

addiction problems, disability/injury, over 50 or 60 etc),

are frozen out of the labour

market whilst 2 million of

those "lucky" enough to have

a job suffer from work-related

stress.

Why not give those

800,000 a job, maybe with

reduced hours, pay them a

decent wage (22,000DKr a

month, give them a chance

to pay tax and VAT and let

the stressed cut their hours.

And as Enhedslisten has

demonstrated this policy

would actually save money.

Another example is our

plans for ecological reorganisation of agriculture and the

food processing industry.

At a time when investment

and jobs are disappearing

eastward and southward

these policies had an echo of

support amongst workers

who would not yet vote for

us.

Since the election campaign started in January we

have had over a thousand

membership applications. The results were as follows

ir gebyrer nok! Maybe we won't be able to integrate everyone and certainly not everyone will be super-active, but this gives us a chance to extend our geographical base beyond the big cities.

We need structures which relate members' activity in unions, parent committees, campaigns etc.

The increased vote also gives improved state-support to the national office and parliamentary secretariat and can free up more resources for campaigning.

Enhedslisten's MPs are the two sitting MPs Pernillle Rosenkrantz-Theil and Line Barfod plus former MP and economist Frank Aaen, newly elected are Per Clausen, Rune Lund and Fourth Internationalist Jorgen Arbo-Baehr.

Before we get too carried away, we still have to recognise that for every Enhedslisten vote there are still 2 who vote for SF and 8 who vote SD. We have. demonstrated we are more than a protest movement, now the challenge is to build a real workers party.
