This is scanned newsprint, not web text. The original PDFs carried no text layer at all, so every word here was read off the page by OCR. Expect dropped opening letters, run-together words and wrong characters. There was no contents page to cut the paper up by, so the articles were found from the size of their headlines: a headline may carry its kicker, and where an article ran beside a boxed panel a few lines of the neighbour can appear. The scanned issue is the authority; this text is here so the words can be found at all.

For campaigners, the labour movement and the left the challenge is to raise awareness of the dangers of a third term, and to build the strongest possible political challenge.

Ball policies.

We must also ensure that the fight on all these issues is taken consistently into the trade unions, which have the most to lose from the next Blair onslaught, and which can also be the most powerful opponents on the modernising madness that will be the mainstay of the new manifesto.

Karl Marx argued that those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to relive their experiences twice: once as tragedy, the second time as farce.

Only the most urgent, sustained and serious action in 2005 can prevent us suffering a third re-run of the Blair project, this time as fiasco. --- -1
