only immigration prison opened, campaigners are hoping they have scored a victory against child detention. On the third anniversary of the opening of the centre, there were no children locked up and visitors were told there had been none for several weeks.

Vigorous campaigning by the Scottish TUC, the Scottish Socialist Party especially Rosie Kane MSP and Scottish campaigns in defence of asylum seekers have highlighted the plight of all immigration detainees. They particularly highlighted the plight of children such as the Ays who were held in Dungavel as well as various centres in England before being deported to Germany.

But his asylum claim has been refused. He was evicted from his NASS accommodation, his financial support cut, and has no right to work - he was destitute and homeless, and subject to removal.
