The region is a difficult one for the left to make an impact but some good results were obtained where we were active.

In the elections the Conservatives retained their dominant position in the Eastern region (30.8% of the votes). UKIP (19.6% of votes) beat Labour(16.2% of votes) into second place. The BNP secured 65,000 votes (4.3%). Respect obtained 14000 votes (0.92%).

A sign of the times perhaps is that the convener of Respect in the region throughout the campaign was a sixth former, Ed Cope. LAIN

Most of its votes came from workers at the Watford Sorting Office. St Albans had not succeeded in getting into networks of people, in particular trade unions and the Muslim community. Peterborough achieved the second best result in the region, obtaining 4.5% of the votes.
