OFFICIAL PICKET

Socialist Resistance no13  |  page 4-5

This is scanned newsprint, not web text. The original PDFs carried no text layer at all, so every word here was read off the page by OCR. Expect dropped opening letters, run-together words and wrong characters. There was no contents page to cut the paper up by, so the articles were found from the size of their headlines: a headline may carry its kicker, and where an article ran beside a boxed panel a few lines of the neighbour can appear. The scanned issue is the authority; this text is here so the words can be found at all.

the dispute. -On the picket line the mood was very good. It was 100 percent solid, and we turned lorries away by mass pickets. We're planning further action, including further overtime bans, and a further 24 hour stoppage.

Pay in this country is abysmal and if we give other workers confidence, then good. We are paid better than many workers in the public sector, or take for instance a security guard on £5 an hour working 60 hours a week.

Our agreement is a 36 hour week. I think there is a need to motivate, and we have a long history of solidarity with other workers. During the miners' strike we raised over €10,000 for one pit in South Wales. The point is compassion for other workers."
