Venezuela : This process belongs to the people!

2012-08-15  ·  first published in Socialist Project  ·  206 words

This was not a Socialist Resistance publication. marxsite was Phil Hearse’s own long-form site, run alongside the paper he helped edit. It is kept here with his agreement, recovered from the Internet Archive after the domain lapsed and was taken over by someone else; nothing here links to the address it now points at.

As credited on the page: “link to socialistproject.ca”

Only part of this piece survives. The capture it was recovered from is truncated, so the text below stops before the article did. The original is still readable at Socialist Project: read it in full. The full piece runs to about 4,216 words against the 206 that survive here.

Susan Spronk and Jeffery R. Webber (SS and JRW): Can you tell us about your political history and how you got involved in the struggle?

Juan Contreras (JC): I became active politically at the age of 12-13 years old. I am a roduct of circumstance rather than design. If you asked me what I wanted to do with my life I would answer, “I want to be the best soccer player on the planet.” Indeed, sport is my biggest passion; I am a frustrated athlete now dedicated to politics [laughs]. I was born in the barrio 23 de enero; my parents have also lived here most of their lives.
