Between one and two million Catalans have marched annually demanding a referendum on independence from Spain. The Spanish government, led by PP's Mariano Rajoy, repeatedly refused to call it. When the pro-independence majority in the Catalan government announced that a referendum would take place on the 1 of October, the PP vowed to stop it. The appalling images coming from Catalonia today show to what extent their threat was real. Not only has the government refused to recognise the referendum, but it has actually tried to physically prevent people from voting, sending the police to charge against them, seize ballot boxes and seal polling stations. Reports are that up to 500 people have been injured by the police, some critically.
It's enough! Catalans have a right to decide over their own future. The movement in the streets of Barcelona and other cities is not only fighting for independence, but also for the right of those who don't want independence to have their voice heard.
STOP REPRESSION NOW!
