Labour pains - problems of Labourism
with Roland Rance (Socialist Resistance) and Simon Hannah (Mutiny)
Thursday 9 July, 18:30 (BST London)
Under Keir Starmer’s leadership Labour has gone through serious convulsions. Many people from the Labour left have resigned, yet the party claims nearly 600,000 members. Starmer is edging forward in the polls but he is being criticised for his compromises and lack of radicalism in the face of movements like Black Lives Matters. Momentum has been through a bruising internal election and might take the left in a new healthier direction but has the movement already passed?Meanwhile in East London the Labour run Council of Tower Hamlets is sacking its entire workforce and rehiring them on worse terms and conditions.
At this meeting Roland Rance from Socialist Resistance and Simon Hannah, author of "A Party with Socialists in it: A History of the Labour Left", will be putting the current debates in Labour into historical perspective and discuss how we can build a socialist movement.
