The Syrian revolution will enter its sixth year this March. Join us on Saturday March 12th in London to support a peaceful, democratic Syria. A Syria without Assad. A Syria without ISIS.
For 5 years the Assad regime has been committing atrocities against his own people, who rose up peacefully for democracy and accountability. These atrocities include snipers shooting at unarmed protesters, detaining and torturing civilians including women and children, serial rapes against women detained by the regime, using unguided bombs (i.e. barrel bombs) indiscriminately in populated residential areas targeting hospitals, schools and busy markets, chemical massacres and withholding food in order to starve people to death. Almost 1 million civilians in Syria are under brutal sieges by Assad and his allies, which deprive them of all food and medicine.
It is not only Assad who inflicted this on the Syrian people. Iran, Russia, Hezbollah, and others are helping him in his brutal campaign against his own people. Also, the US-led coalition and more recently, the British airstrikes made the horrific situation even worse, increasing the number of civilian deaths as well as the number of Syrians desperately fleeing to seek somewhere safe to live.
Almost two-thirds of Syria’s population has been displaced and millions have fled the country. The UN has declared the situation in Syria to be the worst humanitarian crisis since World War 2. Not only did the international community fail to stop Assad’s war in Syria, but they have also done very little for Syrian refugees who are desperate and legally entitled to seek asylum in Britain and other countries.
We urge everyone to join the march on March 12th to support Syrians who have been marginalised, oppressed, tortured, starved, gassed, and killed on an unfathomable scale. It is more important than ever to show your support for the people of Syria who have lost everything but hope. We must not let the world turn its back on Syria.
